Patient-specific guides for L6–S2 stabilisation

Accurate screw placement begins with detailed planning. For this L6–S2 lumbosacral stabilisation case, Vet Forge collaborated with Dr Mark Newman to create patient-specific guides based on the patient’s CT anatomy. Individual guides were designed for L6 and L7, with a combined bilateral guide for S1 and S2. Follow the case from planned screw trajectories and 3D guide design through to postoperative CT, with excellent guide performance and screw placement reported by Dr Newman.

Planning the screw trajectories

Screw trajectories were planned using the patient’s CT data, establishing the intended entry points and directions for instrumentation from L6 through S2. These trajectories formed the basis of the guide design.

A guide configuration tailored to the anatomy

Three patient-specific guides were designed:

  • An individual guide for L6.

  • An individual guide for L7.

  • A combined sacral guide incorporating bilateral trajectories at both S1 and S2.

Each guide was designed to fit the corresponding bone surface and transfer the planned trajectories into surgery.

From planning to placement

Dr. Newman reported that the guides seated well, and the postoperative CT shows excellent screw placement! Take a look at the CT views below!

Wonderful work by Dr. Newman, and a pleasure to support this case with custom planning and guide design. Thank you, Mark, for sharing the postoperative imaging and feedback.
